KUALA LUMPUR, -Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2000 has received a record entry of 20 companies, making it the largest motor show to be held in this region, said organiser Malaysian Automotive Association (NAA) today. He added that the 20 member companies of MAA, led by Auto Bavaria had booked a total net area of more than 5,700 sq metres in exhibition space in this year's motor show which runs from Nov 25 to Dec 4.

In addition, 30 to 50 automotive parts and accessories companies, and component manufacturers were also expected to sign up for the event.

Trade-Link Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd, the co-event manager, had expanded the exhibition space at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) to include Dewan Merdeka, bringing the total gross area to more than 13,000 sq metres.

MAA president Aishah Ahmad said in a statement, the record-breaking entries from its members had exceeded the allocated lots at the PWTC by 100 percent. "A host of exciting new releases are planned and a significant number of concept cars will be coming from both national and international manufacturers," she added.

MAA had intended to use the motor show to define the motor industry in Malaysia as well as the latest global trends and present them to local and foreign automotive enthusiasts. Aishah, who had expected the final number of entries to climb even higher, said the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show had taken on a new significance when it was regarded as the shop window to industry. Due to the overwhelming response, there is only less than 10 percent exhibition space available for booking. -- BERNAMA
